Outfitter Pro Review : Clean, Elegant theme for E-commerce

E-commerce is on fire, I mean literally on fire. Studiopress, one of the leading WordPress theme companies also rolled out “Outfitter Pro“, the theme that I’m going to talk about today. Every day, more than thousands of stores are started on the web. With the advent of platforms like Shopify and woo-commerce, things became even easier. In the past 4 months alone, my team has witnessed a dramatic rise in the “web content writing” gigs over at scribbify. Most of these gigs were about pages for an e-commerce store. I’ve been personally engaged with some start-ups as well.

There are a lot of things that account for the success of an e-commerce startup. One of these crucial factors is the website’s design and layout. Factors like :

  • How quickly it loads?
  • How efficiently can it display product?
  • What text is on buttons?
  • Which products are being loaded first?
  • Does website make purchasing easy?

make a huge impact when it comes to sales of a website. I mentioned loading time on the top because it is one of the biggest factors that people have to deal with. I personally spent more time on making my company website fast. If you used a platform like Shopify, speed is not essentially a problem. But, if you are on self-hosted WordPress, you’ve to be very cautious about your page loading times.

The theme that I have today – Outfitter pro, comes from the house of Studiopress, the awesome people that rolled out Genesis framework. Genesis framework is known for its speed, security, and customizability.

Outfitter Pro Introduction

Outfitter Pro is a Genesis woo-commerce theme. With a clean, simple and elegant design, this theme integrates flawlessly with the woo commerce plugin to give you the ability to sell products. The selling point of this theme is its beautiful design, very simple typography, non-predictable layouts, brilliant blog section and much more.

The best thing about this theme is that it is not predictable. There are some themes such as newspaper, that if you use them, any person like me can instantly point out that it is the newspaper. It is not only newspaper, there are tons of such theme. This theme is new and with a completely random layout.

The homepage features a call to action in the above fold.

Below the “Call to action” the products are listed. The product images show “add to cart” buttons upon hovering. The images also change when you hover over them. This creates a cool effect if you use it correctly.

I LOVED this hover effect. I know I could create a very eye catching website with this effect itself.

The buttons are very clean and simple. I loved that they didn’t use an image to create button. Buttons are made via CSS and won’t affect loading time.

My client always requests me that they need at least 300 words on the home page. Usually, it is not easy because e-commerce websites don’t essentially write a lot of content. This theme handles this problem in a very simple manner. The blog section is displayed above footer on the homepage.

Blog Section

This what their blog section’s post listing looks like. The typography is simply elegant and is very easy to read. But, I am not a fan of the giant featured image thing. Honestly, why do you need your image to be bigger than 700px if it’s not for the background ?

Apart from the featured image ( which you can configure ), everything is awesome.

Final words

If you are a startup, with a couple of product ( not single product ), or if you are about to create a drop shipping store on WordPress, this theme is perfect for you.
